history
The Dubard Family is for more than 30 years, the most famous producers of refreshing and reasonably priced wines in South-West France. The family members offer differing personalities of graduate oenologists, wine makers and viticulturists who together make up a dynamic and passionate team that has been renowned in the Bergerac wine region for decades. Being receptive to their terroir, combining common sense and long experience with ceaseless wine-making and viticulture: these are the founding principles on which the family has relied in their exceptionnel cuvées. They are also ongoing on the environmental label "HVE" (High Environmental Value).
Vineyard
The Dubard family settled as winemakers in the Bergerac region, in the late 70’s, on the right bank of the river Dordogne. Cabernet franc vines come from three different areas, with rows all orientated North-South. The soils there are quite light, with sandy clay, or clay on an important flint layer. Limiting the growth of the vines leads to small berries, and an interesting concentration. Our certification HEV (High Environmental Value) shows our environmental awareness, and allows our terroirs to express their personality.
Winemaking
The grapes are night harvested in order to take advantage of low night temperatures. After de-stemming and crushing, the grapes are directly transferred to stainless steel tanks on their arrival in the cellar. The temperature is at first maintained rather low (60°F) for a few days, to maximise flavour extraction. A short maceration (2 weeks) run with quite low temperatures (80°F) preserve the typical aromas of the variety. The post-fermentation maceration is limited to 2 weeks to limit the tannic extraction. As soon as the fermentation is finished, the wine is drained to stainless tanks, where the malolactic fermentation and the ageing are carried out.
Tasting notes
Lovely deep purple colour. First fruity & spicy, unveils aromas of blackcurrant and blueberries, the nose, leather, and delicate floral notes. The palate reveals a lot of subtlety and mastered power, underlined with an elegant minerality.
Food pairing
This “Cabernet Franc” can be matched well with grilled meats or spicy dishes. Best served at 65°F.
Aging potential
This is an early-drinking wine, which will be best its first 5 years.
