history
Owner of Chateau Lynch-Bages since 1939, the Cazes family has, over the generations, expanded its range of vineyards and developed a true model of tourism based on a tradition of hospitality. Jean-Charles Cazes models a wine that is quickly recognized. André Cazes, the youngest of his 4 sons, studied law. It was not until the 1960s that he took over the reins of the estate. And like his father before him, his influence will be decisive. He regenerated and enlarged the vineyard, which reached nearly 100 hectares at the end of the 1990s. After studying engineering, André's son, Jean-Michel, returned to Pauillac in 1973. He was accompanied by Thereza, a Portuguese woman from Mozambique, and their first three children, Kinou, Marina and Catherine, soon to be joined by Jean-Charles. Their marriage, made official by André, then mayor of the town, laid the first stone of a resolutely cosmopolitan family history.
Vineyard
This wine pays tribute to Michel Lynch, a name that is inextricably linked with the great wines of Bordeaux. Born in 1754, he devoted his life to improving the wines on his estate now known as Château Lynch-Bages. The wine that bears his name has passed through the hands of a renowned winemaking team. It is crafted from a selection of the Bordeaux vineyard’s noblest grapes, which have been harvested at maturity and carefully vinified.
Winemaking
After a cold and rainy winter, the warm, damp summer ensured good fruit set but also rapid development of downy mildew. Thankfully, the subsequent summer was hot and dry, reducing the threat of parasites and allowing the grapes to ripen well. A few hailstorms on 26 May then 4 and 15 July unfortunately had a (very localized) impact on some Bordeaux vineyards. During the harvest, the thick skins of the red grapes gave ripe and fleshy tannins. The balance between sugar and acidity is remarkable and gives a rich and beautiful vintage.
Tasting notes
The 2018 vintage has a beautiful, dense color with ruby highlights. Its nose is expressive with aromas of black cherry and blackcurrant enhanced by notes of black pepper. In the mouth, we discover a full and supple wine with black fruits, mocha and spices notes with a long and silky finish.
