history
Born in 1754, Michel Lynch devoted his life to improving the wines on his Lynch-Bages property. A shrewd wine producer, he was one of the prime movers in the viticultural advances at the end of the 17th century, in particular with the early trials of de-stemming (separating the stalk and pips) before fermentation, which subsequently became widespread in Médoc. Two centuries later, his memory lives on in the name Château Lynch-Bages. And in 1986 the vineyard’s owner, Jean-Michel Cazes, created a new range of quality wines that also bears his name. Michel Lynch is a selection of wines that faithfully reflect the full diversity and wealth of Bordeaux’s vineyards. They are wines intended for amateurs wanting to immediately enjoy a wine embodying the finesse and richness typical of the region.
Vineyard
This wine pays tribute to Michel Lynch, a name that is inextricably linked with the great wines of Bordeaux. Born in 1754, he devoted his life to improving the wines on his estate now known as Château Lynch-Bages. The wine that bears his name has passed through the hands of a renowned winemaking team. It is crafted from a selection of the Bordeaux vineyard’s noblest grapes, which have been harvested at maturity and carefully vinified.
Winemaking
2019 was marked by a cool, rainy spring, with the vegetation getting off to a slow start. The damp weather, along with two light hailstorms, resulted in uneven flowering at the end of April. This was followed by an extremely hot, dry summer, which allowed the grapes to develop well and in very healthy conditions. Rain at the beginning of August was beneficial to the plants, leading to an even onset of ripening, a sign of good quality. Finally, the weather at the beginning of September was ideal; mild, with cool nights. With a smaller but concentrated harvest, the Sauvignon Blanc was particularly aromatic, yet still lovely and fresh. The Semillon was harvested a few days later and was dense and well-balanced.
Tasting notes
The 2019 vintage has a lovely pale color with hints of green. The bouquet is intense and rich, with a touch of vanilla and aromas of quince paste and brioche. The velvety palate offers a mix of yellow fruit (peach, plum) and toasted notes, with a lovely fresh finish of roasted almonds.

A classic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, this is a partially wood-aged wine. Concentrated from a low-yield harvest, the aromatic fruit also hints at spice and pineapple flavors. The tang and crispness need to soften, to bring out the toast from the wood.
