history
In 1929 a group of wine producers decided to mutualise their equipment and their experience by creating a winery to commercialise red wines from the upper valley of the Aude river. White wines were produced at a later stage. They chose the name Anne de Joyeuse as a tribute to the Duc de Joyeuse who was the first landlord to be honoured at the court of King Henri III. In exchange for his loyal services, the king offered him a Lordship and land surrounding Limoux. From 1972, they decided to plant the red grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc and Malbec with Chardonnay and Sauvignon for white wines. These varieties are perfectly adapted to the Limoux terroir, benefiting from the climatic influence of four terroirs : Mediterranean, Oceanic, Pyrenean and Autan.
