Hermitage Red
Domaine Emmanuel Darnaud - Hermitage
Red,Hermitage
Syrah 100%
history
Emmanuel Darnaud started his domaine in 2001 with just 1.3 hectares of vines but now has 15 hectares, all in Crozes-Hermitage. Since 2010, the vineyard has been enriched with a new appellation: 1.7 ha of St Joseph. His painstaking work in the vineyard and regard for the fruit in the vinification process have ensured his place amongst the “big boys” with his first 2001 vintage. The quality of his wines has earned him great praise in French and international revues, as well as a place in many Michelin-starred restaurants. "If you like dark, rich, smoky-styled Syrah, this is a domaine for you to try."J. Molesworth.
Vineyard
1/3 Greffieux: soil of glacial alluvium composed of small rounded pebbles and clay. 2/3 Bessard: granite soil.
Winemaking
Destemming for a portion of the production, then fermentation together (15 to 20 days). Aging in barrels or demi-muids with several wines or in tanks (approximately 18 months). Manual harvesting. In organic conversion.
Tasting notes
The wine develops an intense purple robe, with violet reflections. The nose is deep and refined, revealing in turn fragrances of crisp black fruits, such as Burlat cherry, blackberry, and plum, as well as spicy notes of black pepper. The palate is lively with a dense and concentrated texture, marked by robust and granular tannins.
Food pairing
It will pair perfectly with red meats. A roasted squab fillet, accompanied by a cherry and licorice jus, or even a beautiful hare à la royale, will complement the intensity of this wine.

A stylish, harmonious and pure Hermitage, with a ripe core of plum and blackberry that boasts a gorgeous texture. A lot of spice intrigue melds in, with juniper, violet and toasted anise elements giving an incenselike perfume throughout. The silky, polished palate is shored up with deep iron minerality and finely hewn tannins. Energetic and long. Drink now through 2035.
