history
Château Ormes de Pez belongs to the Médoc landscape since the 18th century. Located West of Saint-Estèphe and bordering the hamlet of Pez, the estate owes its name to a magnificent grove of elm trees, which no longer exists today. Château Ormes de Pez is the second property – after Château Lynch-Bages – acquired by the Cazes family in 1939.
Vineyard
Created using plot-by-plot selection carried out mainly on the large Ormes de Pez terroir, Saint-Estèphe reflects all the wealth and complexity of its prestigious appellation. Produced with passion by the J-M Cazes family, the wine has benefitted from the same cultivation practices as those employed across the vineyard and the same level of care during the winemaking process. This fruity and elegant wine can be enjoyed straight away while young. Cabernet : sandy-gravelly plots composed of quartz and rolled pebbles. Merlot : sandy-clay plots.
Winemaking
Hand-picked with selective sorting. 12 months in one-wine barrels and two-wines barrels.
Tasting notes
With an intense and deep ruby color with violet tints, Saint-Estèphe d’Ormes de Pez unveils a beautifully mature bouquet with woody, spicy and tobacco notes combined with red fruits (blackberry ) aromas. The palate is structured and powerful with beautiful black cherry, blackcurrant and grilled coffee aromas. The tight tannins are worthy of a great vintage. An elegant finish slightly spicy and woody.
