history
This wine pays tribute to Michel Lynch, a name that is inextricably linked with the great wines of Bordeaux. Born in 1754, he devoted his life to improving the wines on his estate now known as Château Lynch-Bages. The wine that bears his name has passed through the hands of a renowned winemaking team. It is crafted from a selection of the Bordeaux vineyard’s noblest grapes, which have been harvested at maturity and carefully vinified. Michel Lynch Prestige celebrates the region’s greatest local appellations. These are exceptional wines that faithfully reflect both the local terroir and its grape varietals.
Vineyard
After a mild and rainy winter, a particularly hot month of February, and the summer weather at the beginning of spring, the bud break occurred early. The intense frost episode during the nights of April 7 and 8 caused historic damage to the entire French vineyard. The vegetative cycle was very disturbed but hope is reborn with the counter-buds which restart in the last week of April thanks to milder temperatures. The very wet month of June created millerandage and coulure phenomenon, limiting again the harvest potential. Great vigilance in the vineyard allows the grapes to mature in good sanitary conditions despite a complicated climatology.
Winemaking
The vinification is traditional in thermoregulated stainless steel vats with a rigorous parcellar selection. A low-temperature and slow alcoholic fermentation allows a gentle extraction. 12 months aging in French oak barrels: 25% new barrels. Double guyot pruning, thinning, de-leafing, green harvesting.
Tasting notes
Michel Lynch Margaux 2021 displays brilliant purple reflections and an intense bouquet of black fruits and spices. On the palate, it is a full-bodied wine that reveals flavors of cherries and mocha. The finely oakey finish is long, elegant, and harmonious.
