history
Domaine Riere Cadene is a family winery nested between Mediterranean Sea and Pyrenees Moutains, in a Region called Roussillon. Since 1904, from father to son, they use the same traditional skills and perpetuate their precious understanding of the wine. They are committed to producing high quality wine that reflect their great Terroir, in a sustainable way ( organic farming since 2019 vintage). Here many years ago, a family of winegrowers began cultivating two exceptionally distinctive terroirs, with the accent on freshness, elegance, and attention to detail and the story never ended.
Vineyard
The vineyard of the domain is uniquely characterized by its terrain, consisting of rounded river pebbles, mainly granite and quartz, from the Têt terraces. This distinctive soil composition plays a pivotal role in defining the character of the wines. Additionally, the vineyard benefits from maritime influences, which contribute to a unique microclimate. These factors combine to create a terroir that imparts distinct flavors and qualities to the grapes grown here, setting the wines of this domain apart.
Winemaking
Their vineyard, known for its quality, produces a yield of 45 hectoliters per hectare. They focus on selective grape harvesting just before phenolic maturity and follow a meticulous winemaking process. This includes destemming, a 10-day vatting period with pumping-over, and gentle pneumatic pressing. Only the best free-run juices are chosen for their wines, which are then aged in tanks for four months to enhance flavor and character.
Tasting notes
This wine presents a beautiful garnet color, and its aroma is a lively blend of fresh red fruits and gooseberry with hints of garrigue. On the palate, it offers silky tannins, creating a smooth experience. For optimal enjoyment, it's best served at 55-57°F
Food pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with rich meats. It complements the savory taste of black pudding and mashed potatoes, and enhances the flavors of duck confit with baked apples, elevating each meal.
