La Grangelière Red
Pierre Amadieu - Vacqueyras

history
The Amadieu family settled in Gigondas in 1929. Pierre Amadieu, grandfather of the current winemaker, whose name is also Pierre, started the business with a small estate in Gigondas. In 1954, he had the opportunity to buy 280 acres that was not planted with vines. He gradually turned it into a vineyard, starting at the top of the hill at a place called "Grand Romane". Later he also planted vines halfway down the hill at the lieu-dit named "La Machotte". With these two domains, Pierre Amadieu is now known as a leading AOC Gigondas producer both in quality and quantity.
Vineyard
With a Mediterranean climate like all the rest of the southern Côtes du Rhône, Vacqueyras is grown on terraces extending from the south-west of the Dentelles de Montmirail foothills to the plateau of Sarrians. The soils are sandy and stony, turning to clay in the south. Vines : 15 years - 8ha - Yield : 35 hl/Ha.
Winemaking
The process matches the character of each wine: one third ages for 9 months in barrels (half of them new wood) and the rest softens gradually in tuns. This adds to the fruitiness pleasantly rounded woody aromas and delicacy conferred by natural micro-oxygenation.
Tasting notes
Aromas of undergrowth and small red fruit lightly seasoned with touches of vanilla in the mouth evolve towards the fullness and strength of pepper and spice.
Food pairing
This fine wine will go delightfully with a meat casserole such as lamb or a blue cheese.

Prominent whiffs of burnt caramel, char and toast meld seamlessly into richly concentrated black-plum and cherry flavors in this wine. An 80/20 blend of Grenache and Syrah matured six months in oak, it's a lavish, stately wine that balances youthful black-fruit flavors against embellishments of clove, vanilla and crushed earth. Soft in tannins, it's ready to enjoy now but should improve through 2028 and hold further.
