history
Cave de Tain is a family-driven cooperative with a legacy of winegrowing that spans four generations. Located at the base of the Hermitage hill, they cultivate 22 hectares alongside additional contributions from member winegrowers, focusing exclusively on wines from their own grapes. In 2014, they invested in advanced technology to enhance wine quality across all appellations, paving the way for innovations such as organic and sulfite-free wines. Committed to sustainability, Cave de Tain also fosters a new generation of winemakers who view themselves as active contributors to the winery’s mission. To taste their wines is to experience this dedication firsthand.
Vineyard
Northern Côtes-du-Rhône, left bank. Soil: The hills around Tain are constituted, on the western side, of granitic sand and on the eastern side, of loess. The Gambert de Loche Hermitage is produced from vines grown on fluvio-glacial alluvial soils for 75% and on granitic soils for 25%. Climate: Microclimate with a Mediterranean influence, very sunny and protected from northern winds.
Winemaking
Rigorous plot selection on old and low-yielding vines situated on Les Signaux, La Croix, Bessard, Thouet et Hermite. Hand picked grapes. Traidtionnal fermentation in stainless steel tank at 28°C. Gentle extraction methods : delestage, regular punching of the cap and pumping-over. Warm wine is run off. Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. Maturing: In 228L new barrels and from 1 to 3 wines barrels for 18 months.
Tasting notes
Color : Bright and deep purple red Aromas : Complex aromas of very ripe, almost jammy black fruit. The whole reveals a very good maturity of the fruit while combining freshness and power. In the palate : remarkable volume with an imposing tannic structure. Tannins are fine, sign of a beautiful maturity. Black fruits, bitter cocoa, garrigue herbs but also fresh leather and vanilla notes. Freshness and maturity for this Hermitage with a good ageing capacity.
Food pairing
