history
The Chanfreau Family settled in Listrac-Médoc in 1962 when Léo purchased Château Fonréaud following his return from Algeria. A few months later, his father, Marcel Chanfreau, who also wished to settle in the Médoc, bought Château Lestage (neighbouring Fonréaud) and Château Caroline. Today, Marcel's grandson, Jean Chanfreau, runs the estates with his wife Marie-Hélène and his sister Caroline Chanfreau-Philippon. He bought Clos des Demoiselles in 2002. The family-owned vineyard covers 42 hectares in the commune of Listrac-Médoc and 9 hectares in the commune of Moulis en Médoc. The vines grow at the highest point in the Médoc, the Puy de Menjon, at an altitude of 43 metres.
Vineyard
Plowed or grassed, depending on the nourishing characteristics of the soils, their vines receive all of their care. The lightest soils are plowed and scratched to avoid excessive summer water stress.
Winemaking
La Mouette is produced with the greatest care - Handpicking with repeated passages through the rows - Pressing of the whole bunches - Fermenting and ageing in barrels on the fine lees with bâtonnage - 45% New Oak - Bottled just before the summer Serve between 9 and 12°C
Tasting notes
With a sparkling pale yellow color, this wine evokes white-fleshed fruits and hawthorn, complemented by an elegant woodiness. On the palate, the flavors of white peach are supported by a beautiful freshness that tingles the taste buds.
