history
The Domaine de Rosiers, a historic family estate located in Ampuis in the Rhône Valley, has been passed down through three generations. Since 2013, Maxime Gourdain has managed the 8-hectare vineyard, succeeding his grandfather André and uncle Louis Drevon. The estate, renowned in the Côte-Rôtie appellation, expanded to produce its first Condrieu in 2014 and IGP Collines Rhodaniennes in 2016. Its vineyards span the right bank of the Rhône in Ampuis, Tupin-et-Semons, and Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône. Maxime has preserved the estate's environmental practices while enhancing soil and vine management throughout the seasons. Committed to crafting high-quality, authentic wines through sustainable viticulture and traditional methods, the estate earned HVE certification in 2020 and began its conversion to organic farming in 2021.
Vineyard
Although the harvest is a key moment for the estate, many other stages are just as important throughout the seasons. Work in the vineyards is continuous, with 3 to 15 people working on the estate depending on the season. The soil significantly influences the aromatic profile of the grape varieties and, ultimately, the wines. The estate has three main soil types: Schist for the Côte-Rôtie vines, with varying levels of rock degradation. Granite for the Condrieu vines, with finer, sandy soils. Alluvial soils for the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, near the village, formed by eroded materials from the hills and the Rhône river.
Winemaking
Manual harvest, destemmed and crushed at the start of fermentation. The proportion of new barrels is on average 50%. A selection of 10 barrels is made after 20 months from the hundred barrels aged each year at the estate. The selection is made from all the different Côte-Rôtie parcels of the estate. This choice is made through tasting just before bottling their Drevon cuvée. Thus, they aim to create a limited blend cuvée, maintaining the same structure and spirit as their DREVON cuvée, while seeking greater concentration of aromas and structure in order to create an exceptional cellar-worthy cuvée that highlights the full potential of the vintage.
