history
The Domaine de Rosiers, a historic family estate located in Ampuis in the Rhône Valley, has been passed down through three generations. Since 2013, Maxime Gourdain has managed the 8-hectare vineyard, succeeding his grandfather André and uncle Louis Drevon. The estate, renowned in the Côte-Rôtie appellation, expanded to produce its first Condrieu in 2014 and IGP Collines Rhodaniennes in 2016. Its vineyards span the right bank of the Rhône in Ampuis, Tupin-et-Semons, and Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône. Maxime has preserved the estate's environmental practices while enhancing soil and vine management throughout the seasons. Committed to crafting high-quality, authentic wines through sustainable viticulture and traditional methods, the estate earned HVE certification in 2020 and began its conversion to organic farming in 2021.
Vineyard
Produced since the 2014 vintage, their Condrieu is the result of a blend from their parcel located in the lieu-dit ‘Faugière’ in Saint Michel sur Rhône, just above ‘Grillet’, and a second parcel in the lieu-dit ‘le Piaton’ in the same commune. The grapes undergo a manual harvest and are pressed as whole clusters.
Winemaking
The vines of these 100% Viognier grapes develop in a fine, decomposed granite soil on the surface and must make their way through the bedrock beneath. The grapes resulting from this growth give birth to a mineral Condrieu, preserving the aromas of this iconic grape variety from their region while maintaining its freshness. The grapes undergo a manual harvest and are pressed as whole clusters. The wine is aged 50% in vats and 50% in barrels for 9 months. Malolactic fermentation is completed.
