history
Founded in 1925, the Cave de Rasteau is one of the oldest cooperative wineries in the south Rhone Valley in France. The 180 growers benefit from the exceptional terroir of Rasteau, village that has applied for the Cru appellation like Châteauneuf-du-Pape; and finally obtained it with the 2010 vintage. The terroir is both complex and consistent, giving the Cave de Rasteau wines their unique taste
Vineyard
On the hillsides of the village of Rasteau, where the vines grow in soils of large quartzite pebbles washed down by the Rhone river. Clay-Chalk terraces on hillsides with a covering of stones deposited by glaciers. Vines : 40-50 years old - yield : 40 Hl/Ha (2.4T/acre)
Winemaking
The grapes are hand picked when fully ripe and all vinified together to increase their harmony and complexity. They are completely destemmed and undergo long maceration for 10-12 days. The cap is punched 3 to 4 times a day during vinification. Ageing in Vats
