La Germine Red
Domaine Duclaux - Côte-Rôtie
Red,Côte-Rôtie
97% Syrah - 3% Viognier.
history
Founded in 1928, the estate was bought by the great grandfather but has mainly been developed by the father, Edmond Duclaux. Today David and Benjamin work manually their 5.8 hectares of vines on the narrow terraces of the Tupin and Semons hillsides.IIn the will to respect their incredible environment, they do not use any insecticide or acaricide. Also they want their Côte-Rôtie to reflect the southern ‘terroirs’ of the Côte-Rôtie appellation expressing the finesse and the balance of the gneiss soils. "Brothers David and Benjamin Duclaux have ratcheted up their game considerably as this has become one of the best of the small estate bottlers of Cote Rotie. Their cellars and vineyards are at the southern end of the appellation, in the sectors known as Coteaux de Tupin and Maison Rouge.  - R.PARKER.

Tasting notes
Intense ruby color. Elegant and racy nose, black fruits, spices, hints of smokiness. Dense in the palate with velvety tannins. Long and mineral finish. "From a top-notch vintage for Duclaux, the 2006 Cote Rotie La Germine boasts a fragrant bouquet of sweet red and black fruits intermixed with hints of caramel, forest floor, licorice, and bacon fat. Round, generous, seductive, and seamlessly constructed, it should provide immense pleasure over the next decade." R.PARKER

Dark, smoldering style, with steeped black currant and black cherry compote flavors lined with black tea, cast iron and dried bay notes. Cast iron note keeps the finish driving along nicely. Best from 2022 through 2034
