Cave Robert & Marcel - Saumur Champigny
Red,Saumur Champigny

history
In 1957, around forty winegrowers grouped together to confront the economic difficulties of the era, pooling far more than mere financial concerns. At the time, Robert, Marcel, Yvon, Geneviève and the others, hailing from the same terroir, hewn from the same rock and sharing the same time-honoured values, set up their cooperative at the top of the hill in Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg. “They chose to share their experience, their expertise and their dreams„
Vineyard
The Saumur Champigny appellation covers 9 parishes between the Loire River and the hill of Saint Cyr. The vineyard, planted on tufa limestone soil, is well exposed to the sun. Vines : 40 years - 21 acres - Yield : 55 Hl/Ha - 3.35 T./acre
Winemaking
Completely destemmed and vatted for 15-20 days, depending on the year. Fermented in temperature-controlled vats. Bottled early and stored in the cellars dug out of the tufa, where it continues to age in the bottle, protected from the light and temperature variations.
Tasting notes
The very soft tannins are characteristic of this wine and our Saumur Champigny is very typical of the appellation. It is deep ruby-red in color. Blackcurrant and raspberry flavors develop wonderfully after the wine has aged for several months in the bottle.
Food pairing
Ideal with delicatessen meat, grilled meat, poultry and hard cheeses. Some people also enjoy it well chilled with fish. The soft tannic structure of this wine makes it enjoyable with practically all dishes and sauces.
Aging potential
From 1 to 5 years.
