history
The Cave des vignerons de Tavel is in the purest Provençal style. It was built in 1937 when Tavel wines were labelled AOC. It is to date the only winery to be opened by a President of the Republic – Albert Lebrun in 1938. The Cave de Tavel produces half of the Tavel AOC wines, as well as Lirac, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages and Côtes-du-Rhône and stretches over 680 Ha..There are 140 producers, all involved in the day-to-day life of the winery and have their say in the investment decisions for making wines which frequently win medals and are regularly mentioned in wine guide.
Vineyard
The Cave des Vignerons de Tavel is in the Rhone Valley near Avignon, Lirac and Roquemaure. Its geographical position in the heart of the Tavel vineyards is an indication of its deep local roots. Vines : 25 Years old - 37 Acres -Yield : 40 Hl/Ha
Winemaking
The harvest is destalked. Traditional vinification with long vating periods. After putting into tanks, we pump the juice over to homogenize the harvest. During the alcoholic fermentation there are several pumping-overs depending on the denseness. Computer assisted cooling systems enable us to chill if necessary.Ageing In stainless steel vats.
Tasting notes
Eye : bright robe - deep crimson red. Purple tints. Aromas : ripe fruit aromas – caramel and liquorice. Mouth : soft in the beginning - robust and warm – full-bodied wine. Lirac is a Cru which associates elegancy and corpulence.
Food pairing
Red Lirac should be served at 18 degrees. This Lirac wine will be perfect with dishes in sauce (stews), beef, game and great cheese.
Aging potential
Ageing capacity : around 5 to 7 years.

2018
The 2018 vintage seems to be more red-fruited than the 2017 in this appellation. The 2018 Lirac Domaine de Chantepierre is remarkably fresh, with raspberry and cherry fruit underscored by firm but silky tannins and ample length on the finish. This excellent cave cooperative continues its recent run of success.
