history
Christophe Sornay represents the fifth generation to take over the family farm. In the commune of Villié-Morgon, the Sornay family has a solid reputation that it has defended since it took over the Domaine in 2007.The great great grand-father of Christophe was a cooper. We are here in the tradition. The total surface of the Domaine is 12 hectares.Christophe Sornay, attentive to the eco-system, makes the weeding of the vines and brings an enrichment of the humus with his crushed branches.His way of vinification corresponds to the device of Morgon Cru “The fruit of a Beaujolais, the charm of a Bourgogne”.
Vineyard
Domaine Sornay is situated on the town of Villé-Morgon, at the feet of the Moulin-à-Vent hills. Cote de Py has become the most famous terroir of the Morgon Appellation because of its South facing exposure. Soil = schist. Vines : 65 average years old. Yields = 40hl/ha
Winemaking
Manual picking, complete grapes. De-stemming 40%. Vatting time for 14 to 15 days. Carbonic maceration. Ageing in oak barrels for one year.
Tasting notes
Full body with a lot of fullness in mouth. Garnet red colour. Strong ripe fruit aromas : cherry, peach, apricot, plum.... Very well melted and fine tannins. Mineral finish.
Food pairing
Serve at 64° F, with rich meat dishes, game and cheese.
Aging potential
4 to 5 years.

Intense violet and wet-earth nose give this impressive Morgon plenty of personality and it’s still very young. With this kind of structure, balance and the long, mineral and spicy finish, it should age very well. Drink or hold.
