history
Domaine Riere Cadene is a family winery nested between Mediterranean Sea and Pyrenees Moutains, in a Region called Roussillon. Since 1904, from father to son, they use the same traditional skills and perpetuate their precious understanding of the wine. They are committed to producing high quality wine that reflect their great Terroir, in a sustainable way (ongoing conversion to organic farming). Here many years ago, a family of winegrowers began cultivating two exceptionally distinctive terroirs, with the accent on freshness, elegance, and attention to detail and the story never ended.
Vineyard
Augusta is a tribute paid to the antic road built through the Pyrenees Mountains by Emperor August, 2000 years ago. Terroir is made of hillsides, black schist and black marls (location: Agly valley). Mediterranean climate.
Winemaking
Grapes are macerated in the press, and slowly and gently pressed using a pneumatic system, cold stabilized, and partly barrel aged. Matured in tank 6 months before bottling (April).
Tasting notes
An expansive, ample and substantial wine. Macabeu and Grenache blanc are picked slightly underripe to preserve their freshness and minerality. Ten percent by volume is matured in barrels. Vermentino is separately vinified, adding citrus and exotic fruit notes.
Food pairing
Perfect match with fish (either cooked, grilled, raw or marinated). Also excellent with white meats and goat cheese.
Aging potential
2 to 5 years.
Grape varieties
50% Macabeo – 20% White Grenache -30 % Vermentino. Very old vines (80 years and more).
