Les Coteaux Red
Domaine Eric & Joel Durand - Saint Joseph
Red,Saint Joseph
100% Syrah
The vineyard is owned by two brothers: Eric and Joël. Their vineyards cover 22 ha (8,5 ha of Saint Joseph , 9.5 ha of Cornas, 2 ha de St peray and 2 ha of Vin de Pays). They took over the family estate and started bottling our wine in 1991.They work hard to ensure their harvests will be fully expressive of the terroir. They love wines that have personality but are still fine and elegant.
In the south of the St Joseph appellation area. The vines are planted on steep hills facing south-south-west. Granite soils. Vines : 20 to 30 years old - 7,5 ha - Yield : 38 hl/ha
The grapes are harvested when their balance is at its best. Fermentation starts after destemming and cold maceration for 4 days at 8°C. The cap is punched every day by hand. The length of vinification depends on the harvest's potential (15 to 28 days). The soft fruity wines are matured in concrete vats and the more concentrated ones for 12 months in barrels (225l) used 1 to 5 times.

If the Lauteret bottling is a lovable puppy dog of a wine, the 2018 Saint Joseph Les Coteaux is a veteran bird dog—cool, taut and contained, with coiled energy and terrific poise. Scents of cedar and crushed stone appear on the nose alongside hints of mint, black cherries and cassis. It's medium to full-bodied and sleek on the palate, with a lithe musculature and a graceful movement as it eases into a long, cool finish.
