Château des Roches Red
Cave Robert & Marcel - Saumur
Red,Saumur
100 % Cabernet Franc
history
In 1957, around forty winegrowers grouped together to confront the economic difficulties of the era, pooling far more than mere financial concerns. At the time, Robert, Marcel, Yvon, Geneviève and the others, hailing from the same terroir, hewn from the same rock and sharing the same time-honoured values, set up their cooperative at the top of the hill in Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg. “They chose to share their experience, their expertise and their dreams„
Vineyard
Near the city of Saumur in the Loire Valley, 150 miles West of Paris in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean. Tufa limestone and sandstone.
Winemaking
Once the grapes have been completely destemmed and crushed, they are fermented at 82 °F in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Pumping-over three times a day at the beginning of vatting and a total of 15 days on the skins extracts the full tannins. Ageing 6 to 10 months.
Tasting notes
The nose is beautifully complex with notes of green bell pepper, fresh underbrush, ripe blackberries, and truffles, with the freshness of ripe strawberries. Mid-palate, the wine is like a bowl of berries, with a dark concentration of fruits, firm structure, and soft-silky tannins that allow the finish to linger.
Food pairing
Enjoy with grilled meats, hearty vegetables, roasted poultry, and grilled sausage.
