La Cabriole red
Cave Robert & Marcel - Saumur
Red,Saumur
100 % Cabernet Franc
history
In 1957, around forty winegrowers grouped together to confront the economic difficulties of the era, pooling far more than mere financial concerns. At the time, Robert, Marcel, Yvon, Geneviève and the others, hailing from the same terroir, hewn from the same rock and sharing the same time-honoured values, set up their cooperative at the top of the hill in Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg. “They chose to share their experience, their expertise and their dreams"
Vineyard
Near the city of Saumur in the Loire Valley, 150 miles West of Paris in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean. The subsoil consists of the same tufa limestone that was used to build the famous Loire Valley castles. Vines : 40 years - 45 acres - Yield : 55 Hl/Ha - 3.35 T./acre.
Winemaking
Completely destemmed and vatted for 15-20 days, depending on the year. Fermented in temperature-controlled vats. Bottled early and stored in the cellars dug out of the tufa, where it continues to age in the bottle, protected from the light and temperature variations.
Tasting notes
Red Saumur has a beautiful, deep ruby-red color and a bouquet of red fruit (blackcurrant and raspberry). This wine is attractive and easy to drink. It is quite fruity and a bit spicy on the palate with the elegant and soft tannins that characterizes it.
Food pairing
Red Saumur is best enjoyed at 57°F with red meat, game, poultry and cheese. It is now increasingly popular with certain seafood dishes and as an accompaniment to oriental cuisine. It can be served chilled throughout the meal.
