The Luc Pirlet estate is located in the Languedoc Roussillon, the largest wineproducing region in France. Luc is fortunate in having his vineyard in the greatest part of this region which combines the advantages of the Mediterranean and Atlantic climates near the Pyrenean mountains.As a result, the wines produced have the fruitiness given by the south-facing Mediterranean hills, and a good level of acidity due to the high altitude of the hills on the Atlantic side.
Vineyard
Between the villages of Carcassonne and Limoux, near the Pyrenean mountains, not far from the Spanish border. Different plots of soils made up of sandstone, schist and chalk and clay. Vines: 20 to 30 years old - 22 acres - Yield: 50 Hl per hactare - 2.9 T. per acre.
Winemaking
Harvested when perfectly ripe. Grapes are destemmed and fermented for 3 weeks at 80°F. Frequent pumping-over. Ageing in 50% new bordeaux casks and 50% 1 year old barrels.
Tasting notes
Soft and warm with lots of dark fruit and spice followed by an easy-going finish. Medium-bodied.
Food pairing
Roasts and red meats, stews, pasta dishes or just on its own.
Aging potential
8 to 10 years.
